Futures of Sustainability – Guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Sighard Neckel

On November 10, Professor Sighard Neckel of the University of Hamburg delivered a lecture, “Ecological Crisis and the Futures of Sustainability,” hosted by SPSF.

The students actively engaged in the discussions of what different framings of sustainability can mean in the context of societal development. 

Professor Neckel is a Professor emeritus of Sociology at the University of Hamburg and one of the founders of the Humanities Centre for Advanced Studies on “Futures of Sustainability” at the same institution. His vast research repertoire covers social inequality, economic sociology, social theory and sociology of emotions, and more recently also social conflicts over sustainability. Currently, he is visiting Sophia University as JSPS Short-term fellow, as part of a research collaboration with Professor Carola Hommerich (SPSF Sociology).
