On November 22, 2025, students from Sophia Program for Sustainable Futures (SPSF) visited the Ohkawa Plant of Mitsubishi Kakoki Co., Ltd., gaining first-hand exposure to cutting-edge technologies that support a circular and sustainable economy.
During the visit, students toured Mitsubishi Kakoki’s hydrogen production system (HyGeia), algae cultivation facilities, and the oil-cleaning machine production line utilizing advanced separation technologies. The program concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which students actively exchanged ideas with company engineers and project leaders.
The visit was conducted as part of the course “Circular Economy and Sustainable Business,” which was jointly launched in 2025 by Prof. Tetsuya Horie (Department of Economics) and Mr. Yasuhide Hayashi and Mr. Koichi Yamada from Mitsubishi Kakoki. This course marks the first university–industry collaboration course under SPSF, made possible through Mitsubishi Kakoki’s MKK Project.
We sincerely appreciate Mitsubishi Kakoki’s warm hospitality and generous support. Through this visit, students were able to learn directly from frontier industrial technologies that demonstrate how the circular economy can be translated from concept into practice, strengthening the link between academic learning and real-world innovation.
